Job Description
Aquila is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst who will be responsible for preparing financial reports and providing analysis on the income statement, balance sheet, and other critical financial information and metrics.
A successful candidate will work closely with management to help make key operating decisions, will be highly analytical, and be highly motivated. The role will also be heavily involved with the month end and quarter end close processes and help to manage the group’s adherence to deadlines and deliverables. The role also includes an opportunity to assist in aspects of M&A activities and post-acquisition integration.
- Role will include financial reporting, analysis, post-acquisition integration work, and ad-hoc projects.

- Casual and flexible office culture. Currently, Aquila continues with a ‘work from home’ structure but has recently opened a new office in downtown Toronto.
- Good hours/work life balance. Peak periods include quarter-ends, however, can vary depending on acquisition activity throughout the year.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- As an important member of the portfolio finance team, you will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Assist with monthly financial accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, month end analysis, to ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial results.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders through the forecasting process, including quarterly revisions to the annual budget and monthly updates.
- Coordinate with Aquila Head Office Finance team during quarterly and annual financial closes: perform analytical review; ensure financial accuracy; assist with treasury management; provide disclosure requirements; and help with technical accounting topics (as needed).
- Assist with ad hoc projects including analytical reviews, variance analysis; and various other initiatives focused on driving growth.
- Assist with M&A which includes financial modelling review and post-close integration support.
- Assist with complex accounting around critical accounting estimates such as acquisition accounting, foreign operations reporting, and software revenue recognition.
QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA designation, or near completion.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting policies, practices, and applications under IFRS.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a finance/accounting role.
- Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, written, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and senior management, locally and abroad.
- Capable of working as part of a team and independently.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with the ability to adjust and respond professionally to changing priorities and ad-hoc issues.
- Ability to enter a new environment and understand the business and accounting dynamic with minimal guidance.
- Willingness to travel, within GTA and internationally, approximately 10% of the year (contingent on government mandated travel restrictions).
- Experience with Great Plains accounting software an asset.
- Fluency in French and/or Spanish an asset.
