Engineering Technical Requirements Writer (Software Engineering)
Location: Ottawa, Montreal preferred but open to Ontario and Quebec.

As an Engineering Technical Requirements Writer, your role is to gather, analyze, and document the specific technical requirements for engineering projects and products. You will work closely with engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure that the requirements are clearly defined, accurate, and feasible. Your expertise in engineering principles, attention to detail, and effective communication will be essential in shaping the development process and ensuring successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document technical requirements for engineering projects, products, or systems.
- Evaluate and analyze gathered requirements to identify potential conflicts, ambiguities, or gaps, and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
- Clearly and comprehensively document technical requirements using appropriate techniques and tools, such as functional specifications, system requirements documents, or user stories.
- Requirements Verification: Collaborate with stakeholders to review and validate requirements, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and aligned with project goals and constraints.
- Work with stakeholders to prioritize and rank requirements based on their importance, impact, feasibility, and potential trade-offs.
- Establish and maintain traceability links between requirements, design, implementation, testing, and validation artifacts to ensure alignment throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Effectively communicate requirements to engineering teams, product managers, and other stakeholders, ensuring a shared understanding and agreement.
- Manage and track changes to requirements, assess the impact, and facilitate the necessary communication and decision-making processes.
- Identify and assess risks associated with requirements, propose mitigation strategies, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.
- Stay updated with engineering best practices, industry standards, and emerging technologies to contribute to process improvements and enhance the quality of requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is typically required. Relevant certifications or training in requirements engineering or systems engineering are a plus.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, concepts, and terminology related to the specific field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, software).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical information and requirements in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to analyze complex problems, decompose them into actionable requirements, and identify potential issues or conflicts.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in requirements documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, facilitate discussions, and manage diverse stakeholder perspectives.
- Proficiency in using requirements engineering tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, JIRA, Confluence) or similar software for requirements management and traceability.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and industry best practices in requirements engineering.
