Position:
The ALS Society of Alberta is seeking a Communications Coordinator to join the Fundraising and Communications Team and will be based out of the Edmonton office. Reporting to the Manager of Fundraising and Communications, the Coordinator will be responsible for the planning of Walk Together for ALS events across Alberta, community events, and other fundraising initiatives while supporting the needs of the Society.
Key Accountabilities
The successful applicant will provide coordination and support related to the activities associated with community events and fundraisers such as Walk Together for ALS events across Alberta, grant applications and other aspects of fundraising.
The successful applicant will be goal-oriented and passionate about supporting families affected by ALS and will be committed to the Society’s mission. The Coordinator will enjoy working with colleagues, volunteers, donors, and sponsors when planning and executing fundraising events across Alberta. A key component of the role will be coordinating the communications of the ALS Society (i.e.: website updates, social media, content creation, and designing other collateral materials). The ideal candidate will strive for excellence when working and engaging with our community and stakeholders.
Methodical and consistent, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy, the Communications Coordinator will work with a high degree of independence, integrity, and accountability. A proactive communicator, the successful candidate will anticipate challenges and support the organization as needed.
The Communications Coordinator must be available to work evenings and weekends for events as needed and be able to travel in northern Alberta and occasional trips to Calgary.
Key Competencies:
· Proven experience in communications and event coordination.
· Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills, with an emphasis on detail and accuracy.
· Advanced writing with strong verbal communication skills
· Proven experience creating content and visuals.
· Experience with social media platforms and creating/curating content.
· Interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate, advise, and collaborate with others.
· A professional demeanor and superior client-service approach.
· A critical thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills.
· Experience working in not-for-profit considered an asset
Education:
· Undergraduate degree
Background Experience:
· Minimum of 2 years event, marketing and/or communications experience.
· Demonstrated experience in coordinating events and communications
· Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, Experience with programs such as Square, Hootsuite, Constant Contact, etc. considered an asset.
Other:
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Alberta as needed.
· Background check required
