THE POSITION – HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
The Human Resources Manager is a key participant in the relationship with the internal clients, external business partners, and the company. Reporting to the CFO and managing the company’s overall HR function, the Human Resources Manager is a member of the company management team and plays a role that actively contributes to the smooth internal operation of the company.
The ideal candidate for this role is a true generalist. You are resourceful, a good problem solver, detail oriented, personable, flexible, and organized. You possess a client service mindset, have broad generalist experience, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
This is a full-time, year-round, on-site position at our newly constructed professional office located at 507-1000 Islands Parkway, Lansdowne Ontario.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:
Safety:
- All Kehoe Marine Construction employees are responsible to promote a safe work culture.
- Knows, understands, communicates, and ensures compliance with the safety regulations (Health and Safety Act) and safety policies and procedures outlined by the company.
- Completes incident and other safety reports in a timely manner.
- Participates in company safety initiatives, including safety meetings and training, as requested.
- Restricts the use of cell phones to company business through the workday.
The Work:
- Get to know our people and learn about the ins and outs of the marine construction business.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners including but not limited to colleges and universities, Skilled Trades Ontario, and Ministry of Labour Apprenticeship Office.
- Participate as a member of the company management team, which includes weekly management meetings.
- Learn the Bright HR and Bright Safe, BLIP system (our HRIS, safety & timekeeping platform) and as an administrator, becomes a subject matter expert.
- Prepare and review bi-weekly payroll ready reports for submission to payroll.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions.
- Maintain and update the company compensation structure, benchmark positions to the market and provide analysis and recommendations for employee compensation.
- Full cycle recruitment including job postings, candidate communication, management of outsourced recruiting agencies, candidate screening, pre-employment testing (when appropriate), participating in interviews (solo or with another member of management), conducting reference checks and preparing offers of employment.
- Represent the company at industry networking events and/or career fairs.
- Onboard new employees, including ensuring legislated training has taken place.
- Manage and administer all company benefit programs including Employee Health Benefits, the RRSP Plan, and the Health Care Spending Account.
- Develop, review and implement company policies and procedures.
- Maintain the company Employee Handbook.
- Facilitate employee development by identifying needs, sourcing training, delivering training when appropriate (examples: company HR tools, people management, new policies or processes, interview skills, etc.), and maintaining company training records.
- Support employee performance, including recognition (formal or informal), assisting managers with the review process, feedback conversations, and the improvement plan process.
- Other HR initiatives and duties as may arise or be assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in a business office in a marine construction environment.
- Standard workday hours (9:00am- 5:00pm). Longer hours may be required periodically.
- Ability to sit or stand intermittently throughout the day.
- Ability to work for hours at a time at a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Successful completion of a college or university program in Human Resource Management, Business Administration (with an HR concentration), or another related program.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a professional level HR role.
- Professional HR designation (currently held or in progress) is an asset.
- Experience on a Joint Health & Safety Committee is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights (OHR) and Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB).
- Exceptional English communication skills, verbal and written. (French considered an asset)
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exceed client expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication.
- Intermediate to Advanced level of proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of products (Word, Excel, Office, Teams, PowerPoint).
- Prior experience with HRIS systems.
- Flexible and adaptable.
- Organized with an ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Has and maintains a Class G drivers’ license with clean driving record.
