WAGE RATE: $30.230 – $31.175
The Child & Youth Worker (CYW) will provide professional support services to inpatient children & adolescents; and their families at the Owen Sound Hospital The incumbent is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and providing therapeutic recreational & developmental programming in individual & group settings. The Child & Youth Worker will also be responsible for executing strategies for youth experiencing severe mental illness which includes but, is not limited to: planned daily activities, coordinated treatment interventions, treatment programs, and more. The majority of the services will occur in the Adolescent Mental Health Unit but the CYW will also provide service in other areas of the hospital as needed.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required
- Child & Youth Worker Diploma (3 year program), B.A. in Child & Youth Care or a combination of related post-secondary education(Social Science, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology or equivalent) & experience working with youth preferably in an acute care inpatient unit or hospital/transitional unit setting
- Experience with mental illness and high-risk children and adolescents and a sound understanding of psychiatric illnesses and treatments, specifically mood/anxiety disorders, adjustment disorder,
psychosis, parent/child related issues - Demonstrated ability to assess children and youth in crisis
- Experience with behavioural programming for children and youth
- Current membership in Ontario Association of Child & Youth Workers
- Successful completion of corporate Code White training (to be provided)
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills dealing effectively with clients and family, team members and the community
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
