Financial Controller (Manufacturing)

Purpose
The Financial Controller will support the management team in achieving the company’s growth objectives.
Location
This is a full-time on-site position based out of either our Vancouver or Salmon Arm offices. The successful candidate will have to commit to spend at least 1 week per month traveling.
Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
- Producing monthly financial reports (IS, BS, CF, WC, inventory, A/R, A/P, bank covenants, and trailing twelve month IS) by the 5th calendar day of the following month.
- Monitoring financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, variances and providing insights to support decision making.
- Optimizing cash utilization and managing daily accounting activities for accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Coordinating quarterly and annual budgets
- Working with customers and vendors to ensure that accounts are properly maintained and reconciled.
- Implementing financial systems and upgrades.
- Collaborating with cross functional teams on technology decisions.
Cost Analysis and Reporting
- Conducting cost analysis to optimize manufacturing processes, materials and labor costs.
- Analyzing COGS and gross margin to identify opportunities for cost saving and operational efficiencies.
- Presenting monthly cost analysis to senior management and recommending improvements based on key performance indicators, variances and trends.
- Conducting financial modeling and analysis to evaluate the financial impact of new products and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborating with Operations, Sales, Marketing and other departments to gather data to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
Compliance and Audit
- Ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations, industry regulations, and professional accounting standards.
- Coordinating with external auditors to facilitate the completion of annual audits and reviews.
- Ensuring financial controls in accordance to governance requirements from the board.
- Recommending adjustments to internal control guidelines, financial policies and procedures to meet internal control requirements and in accordance with current professional accounting standards.
- Ensuring compliance with bank and investor requirements.
Strategic Planning
- Providing financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and business initiatives.
- Evaluating investment opportunities and providing financial analysis and viability studies.
- Identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements
- Attending investor meetings when required
Supervision
- Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff
Requirements
The successful candidate should have the ability to inspire and lead staff in a manner which supports a positive, inclusive, and supportive company culture based on teamwork. This person will find the following skill sets advantageous.
- Expert in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor Degree
- CPA a +
- Strong communication and relationship management skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; must be a direct, articulate and thoughtful communicator
- Applied knowledge of learning and development practices
- Ability to understand, create, and implement processes
- Good organizational skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $75,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
